Moving the Healthy Eating and Active Living Strategy Forward in Ontario

March, 2008

This consultative report describes four priorities for action which need to take place in order to move Ontario’s Action Plan for Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) forward.

Based on discussions with tobacco field experts on the success behind the Smoke Free Ontario Strategy and building on the knowledge from key informants within the areas of healthy eating, physical activity, health promotion and chronic disease prevention, this report proposes four priorities for action that, when implemented with appropriate investment and collaborative effort with stakeholders, will move Ontario’s Action Plan for HEAL forward; these priorities are also transferable to the development of other healthy public policies, including Ontario’s recent announcement to develop a provincial strategy targeting childhood obesity.
